From clearance search to certificate — the IPO Pakistan process for protecting your brand.
A registered trademark is the strongest legal shield around a brand name, logo, or tagline. In Pakistan, trademarks are administered by the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) under the Trade Marks Ordinance, 2001.
Step 1 — Clearance search
Before filing, we run a search of the IPO register for conflicting marks in the relevant Nice classification. Filing into a crowded class invites opposition and wastes the application fee.
Step 2 — Filing TM-1
The application form, a clear representation of the mark, the applicant's particulars, and the goods/services in their correct class. We typically file in multiple classes where the brand operates across categories.
Step 3 — Examination & journal publication
The IPO examines the application for distinctiveness and conflicts, then publishes accepted marks in the Trade Marks Journal. A two-month opposition window follows.
Step 4 — Certificate of registration
If no opposition is filed (or any opposition is overcome), the IPO issues a registration certificate valid for ten years, renewable indefinitely.
How we help
We handle every step from search to certificate, and represent clients in opposition or rectification proceedings before the Registrar and the IPO Tribunal.
